“High time he had another tutor,' said Larry. 'You leave the house for five minutes and come back and find him disembowelling Moby Dick on the front porch.' 'I'm sure he didn't mean any harm,' said Mother, ' but it was rather silly for him to do it on the veranda.”

THE STORY OF GABRIELLE RAE TUTORING

Hello, and welcome to my tutoring site!

I wanted to create an online science and maths tutoring service to share my love of science with you and to help you build your confidence in learning.  In my third year at university I was an organic chemistry lab 'master' tutor, and held group drop in hours and one-to-ones providing students with guidance for keeping lab notebooks, writing lab reports and understanding theoretical and experimental concepts.  I really enjoyed helping students grow in confidence as I guided them through their struggles with the material, and sharing useful strategies for studying, time management and wellbeing.  It became really important to me that I connect with my students not only on an academic level, but humanly.  I watched some students really struggle, not just with chemistry content but with writing and organisation, grades anxiety, exhaustion, volume of work and time management.  I wanted everyone to leave feeling understood, supported and better about themselves.  So my tutoring took on a holistic approach that takes the whole person into account, not just their academic knowledge.  The results weren't just happier students, but a  better understanding of the chemistry.

Education

Gabrielle graduated with a 2:1 B.A. in Biochemistry and a minor (approx. half a degree) in Mathematics in May 2020.  She studied in the USA on a scholarship, completing a 4-year Liberal Arts degree at the elite women's college, Smith College.  Smith College belongs to ‘the seven sisters’ colleges which were created to parallel the originally male-only Ivy Leagues.  Smith’s affiliation is with Yale University.

Prior to this, she was a student at Richard Huish College in Taunton, Somerset and achieved A*AAA* in her A Levels- Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.  During her time at Huish she was a participant on the Sutton Trust US Programme, which helped her with the USA college applications and standardised testing.

Gabrielle completed her GCSEs at Bishop Fox's Secondary School in Somerset, and achieved the best results in her year group.  She has 8 A*s including science and maths, and 4As.

As an undergraduate studying biochemistry Gabrielle completed classes and laboratories in Cell Biology, Microbiology, Genomes and Genetic Analysis, Genetics & Evolution,   Advanced General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry I & III, Physical Chemistry,  Biochemical Structure & Function, Biochemical Dynamics, Physical Chemistry of Biochemical Systems, Experimental Design in Biomolecular Engineering, and Research in Microbiology. Gabrielle has broad and in-depth subject knowledge across these areas and a thorough understanding of the content in GCSE Science and Maths, and A Level Biology and Chemistry.

To complete the Maths minor Gabrielle took classes in Calculus I, II & III, Discrete Maths, Linear Algebra, Biostatistics, Probability & Statistics and Differential Equations.  In addition to this she completed classes in Data Science and Intro to Computer Science.  Gabrielle currently offers tutoring in KS3 and GCSE Maths.
